Officers were called to a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident near Sports Authority at 8:30 p.m., police said. The person who called police said the suspect's vehicle had rear-ended another car at a red light, police said.
The vehicle, a green Subaru, fled on Connecticut Avenue, police said. An officer found the vehicle moments later with front-end damage and headlights off and pulled it over, police said.
The officer said the driver, Piotr Mieszkowski, 38, appeared intoxicated and slurred his words, police said. When he got out of the vehicle, he appeared unsteady on his feet, police said.
Mieszkowski told officers that he had had one beer, but he failed a field sobriety test, police said. He had a BAC of .2389, nearly three times the legal limit, police said.
He was charged with evading responsibility, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, following too close, failure to have headlights lit and not having insurance, police said.
Mieszkowski’s bond was set at $500 with a court date of May 11, police said.
